Tensile Testing for Carbon Nanotube using Electrostatic MEMS

We are developing the method for tensile test of Carbon nanotube (CNT) which enables to obtain sufficient data to examine them statistically. In conventional methods, it is quite challenging due to the difficulty in setting and clamping it on measuring system though void defect heavily affects the tensile strength. Thus, we suggested an assembly approach to assemble CNT in dielectrophoresis and then clamp it in electroless gold deposition on a number of MEMS tensile testing device in parallel. This allows us to test sufficient number of CNTs in order to investigate the influence of defect on tensile strength.
